Many couples ask us – Should we get engagement photos done? Our answer is always YES! We whole-heartedly believe that in order for couples to have the best wedding photography experience possible, it should begin before the wedding day arrives. Here is our perspective on why every couple should have an engagement session.
* * *
Spend Quality Time Together
After weeks of planning, scheduling, and coordinating your wedding, an engagement session is the perfect time to simply be together. Now is the time to slow down and remember why you are doing all of this in the first place! Use the two hours during the engagement session to hold hands, be silly, and falling even more in love with each other.
Document The Moment
He just proposed to you with a gorgeous ring, so what better way to show it off than in an engagement session! This is one of the main reasons so many of our couples initially book an engagement session with us. They are usually looking to use the images for their Save The Dates, hang in frames, or share with friends and family. Your engagement is going to fly by, so don’t wait to document the moment while your still in it.
Gain Confidence In Front Of The Camera
Lets be honest for a second, everybody gets a little shy in front of the camera, even us! It can feel weird, awkward and uncomfortable if it’s your first time – that’s completely normal. Our job is to create a safe, fun environment for you to be yourselves.
We want the first time in front of our camera to be outside of the chaotic wedding day so that you have a chance to gain confidence and become more comfortable in front of the camera. Make sure to choose a location for your engagement session that is meaningful to you – where you first met, shared your first kiss or just enjoy hanging out together. The location should incorporate who you are and how you spend time together so that your unique personalities can shine through your images.
Get To Know Your Photographer
An engagement session is an amazing opportunity to get to know your photographer and build a friendship with them. The friendship and bond you will build is absolutely crucial to a great wedding photography experience. Our photography style aims at capturing the couple’s raw emotion, love and details of their story. An engagement session gives our couples the chance to get to know us and our shooting style. By the time their wedding day arrives, they have already spent a few hours in front of our camera and know our quirky jokes. And we know how they met, their love story and that allows us to arrive on their wedding day as a trusted friend rather than a hired professional. We create a safe space to be silly, to laugh and to express their love.
If you have been contemplating booking an engagement session with your wedding photographer, I hope this post inspires you to go for it! We absolutely love capturing engagement sessions for our clients and recommend it to every bride that inquires.
