These past few weeks have been insane! We have gotten so much done with our Airstream, it’s pretty incredible. I think we might even break a world record here for the fastest vintage Airstream renovation! Wouldn’t that be cool?! This week we have a bunch of miscellaneous things to do to get the trailer to a point that we can move it. So I’ll just post some updates on some of things we have been working on this week.
We started with installing a new water heater. Our old one was over 15 years old and had nasty water pour out of it when we took it out. It was grey with lots of debris inside. Yuck! We bought our new water heater from an online company called Vintage Trailer Supply. They have pretty much all you need for older trailer models. After installing it, we sealed it with silicone, and bent the outer flanges to match outside surface of airstream.
After repairing the floor last week, we wanted to seal the floor so we don’t create any further damage while we are working inside the trailer. We used a white 123 Base Primer paint and rolled it on with a paint roller. Now the floor is ready to take the abuse of us walking on it during renovation! We also have been installing more wall panels, it is really making the space look like it’s coming together.
We removed the bulkhead in the front of the trailer so we could repair all of the cracks.
Josh cut out circles of ABS material to cement onto the bulkhead to stiffen up the cracks.
The cement takes about a day to harden, and we used clamps to keep the circles in place.
Since we ripped out all of the old built in furniture, we were left with a lot of wires dangling for lights. Josh had to cut a hole in the wall to make room for a couple of wires. He did such a great job cutting the circle, it looked like it had been there the whole time!
We did so many other little things this week, it is hard to remember them all and remember to take photos while doing them since it requires both of us to participate in the task.
As always, if you have any questions or advice, feel free to comment below and check back for future updates on our airstream progress.
Until next week….Have a weekend!
