The Airstream Renovation Timeline

1976 Land Yacht Sovereign Airstream Renovation in Orange County, California.
While some of you have been following our Airstream renovation since it’s early days (beginning of August 2015), many of you are fairly new readers.

To help you through the overwhelming archives, we’ve compiled a timeline. Please don’t try to go through all of these posts at once, there are days and days worth of reading here. We just wanted to organize our build timeline for you so that you can go to the pages you want to read first.

Seriously your airstream looks amazing so far! Me and my boyfriend just bought a 33 foot 77 land yacht and are planning on doing a renovation and live in it as well. We are stuck inbetween refinishing and reusing what’s already in there or a full rehaul . My question is, what made you decide to do a complete gut and Reno? Asking in the hopes it will help make our decision . Super stoked to follow this blog !!!

Thank you Veronica! Congrats on your new Airstream! We decided to completely gut ours because the electrical and plumping components were completely shot. We had to re-do all of it. Our Airstream was also extremely filthy and we couldn’t imagine living in it full-time not knowing what was behind the walls. We are so thankful we did a teardown because we found a wasp nest and a few dead mice. We also found a lot of water damage and had to seal everything better. Our advice would be to save everything you pull out because you might be able to reuse some of it! For example, we saved all of our wall skins, bulkheads and subfloor.

We are leaning towards a complete gut too . All the work will be so worth it! Seeing how clean and fresh yours looks definitely pushes me in that direction! How much do you have budgeted for your renovation if you don’t mind me asking? What have you found to be the most expensive fix so far?

    • Moose Studio says:

Ooh! We’re excited to see how yours turns out. Let us know if you document your progress anywhere – youtube, instagram, blog etc so we can follow along! :) The biggest expenses so far for us have been the new appliances and wood (birch). Since we will be living in it, we didn’t want to cheap out on those.
