Located just South of Downtown San Diego, you will find the hidden jewel – Coronado Island. Geographically speaking, it is actually a combination of an Island and a Tombolo connected to the mainland, called the Silver Strand. Coronado is actually Spanish for “the crowned one” and is often referred to as the The Crowned City. With miles of wide open sandy beaches, palm trees and the beautiful ocean, it is definitely a place to visit.
Ever since I fell in love with the band Dashboard Confessional in high school, and their song Stolen, I have wanted to visit Coronado Island. I’m not sure if it actually is, but it sounds like the inspiration for the song!
Of course, any mention of Coronado Island will merit a reference to Hotel Del Coronado. It is said to be haunted by the famous ghost Kate Morgan who took her own life in 1892 at the hotel after supposedly being jilted by her husband or lover.
It didn’t feel haunted while we visited, although we didn’t spend the night, so you never know…I guess you will have to see for yourself!
Right in front of the hotel is the beautiful Coronado Municipal Beach. The hilly sand is perfect for sitting on the watch the waves crash against the shore…
We stole a few kisses on the pristine white sand before we set out to see the rest of Coronado Island…
There are so many fun things you can do on Coronado Island – rent a bike, windsurf, or simply take a stroll on Ocean Avenue. Pop in and out of various local shops, stalls, restaurants, art galleries where you can dine, shop, and buy local crafts. We ended up eating lunch at The Fish Company, which was absolutely delicious!
I love the photos !
