How We Spent Our First Day In Canada, Eh!

May 25, 2014

Filed in: Travel

Upon landing in Canada yesterday, Josh’s grandparents graciously picked us up from the airport. We arrived a day prior to our destination wedding at Summerhill Pyramid Winery to spend some time with them. I almost forgot where we were when we woke up this morning. Nothing but peaceful silence filled my ears. A welcoming change from the constant hum of the city in Southern California.

My toes got toasty through my wool socks as I set them on the heated hardwood floors.  Yes, heated! A crazy concept to this California girl! They felt amazing against my icy cold feet. As I climbed the stairs from the basement to the main house, a hint of maple syrup and waffles wafted through the air, making my mouth water. Another strange concept to me – a basement! I wish we had these back home, it’s such a ingenious way to add more square footage to your property. Due to the daily mini earthquakes we get in California, I can see how it’s not an option though.

I’m slowly falling more and more in love with this beautiful country. I can tell Josh really misses his homeland too. It’s so cute to watch him get his Canadian accent back and start throwing in Eh! here and there without even realizing it ;)

At the top of the stairs, their house cat named Beatle waited for us. He pushed his grey fur and tiny black nose against our legs begging to be pet and follow hime outside! I’ve personally never had a pet before (my parents claim to be allergic) and fell in love with this little kitty. I might just have to take him home!

After breakfast, we decided to drive to the grocery store in search of some famous Ketchup Chips and All Dressed Chips. In case you’re wondering, they really do taste like you’re biting into a spoon of ketchup. Weird, right?! But, oh so delicious! If you ever find yourself in Canada, you need to try them…

The best part, was getting to cruise around town in Josh’s grandfathers’ Purple 1940’s Studebaker. His grandfather restored it back in the 1980’s, but it still maintains that old school vintage feel to it inside. We definitely got a lot of attention driving it around!

Tonight, we are packing up, and prepping our camera gear for our destination wedding tomorrow at Summerhill Pyramid Winery. We are beyond excited, and know it will be amazing.
